You really need to shoot one or two sets in the style you plan to shoot and content up to the models limits of comfortability.

I may be wrong, but when I read "I'm a recent college grad" I assume:

1. You have no real lighting or production knowledge
2. Models are people you personally know and may or may not perform well on camera.
3. The final result could come out entirely different than what was expected.

Now, none of this may be the case but saying you can do something and showing you can do something are two very different scenarios. If nothing else, do it for yourself. Say "I want to produce (blank)" and do it just to see what the problems are that come up. Trust me, you will be glad you did it now rather than when you have someone you are on the hook to.
