At least 4 times more people die each year in the US from murder than all combined on 9/11. THAT is our national disaster the department of homeland security should be working on.
Slutboat one of my houses is deep in the mountains where police could take 1/2 hour or more to get to me. Meth heads search out such desolate places in the area for home invasions as I have no neighbors in sight or in hearing distance. Everyone around there carries and has guns at home. When a dog was attacking my neighbors cats, the police told us to take care of it ourselves and shoot it.
As for my house in a private community in Boca Raton, my neighbors house was broken into in midday with them at home with their dogs. Living through hurricanes such as Andrew I feel much better very heavily armed and with steel doors and ballistic glass in every window.
I also have fire extinguishers in every house, boat and car I own but I hope to never need them.
