Having seen some other threads on weight loss I thought I'd post my own experience. The amount I've lost is not as remarkable as some others, but it's still ongoing, and most importantly it is relatively EASY to do. There's two simple rules I follow:
1. Think twice about what you're going to put in your mouth, and consider alternatives. Check the nutrition information on labels (eg fat and sugar content) to help put you off it... you might be surprised at what you find.
example: instead of buying a whopper for lunch on the way home, I think for a moment then decide to make a sandwich at home instead. I've talked myself out of the more convenient option, but feel good about it because I know it's going to be better for me.
2. If you must eat something that's "bad," have a smaller portion.
example: buy a single whopper instead of double whopper. (In this case, most of the fat and calories are in the patties, so a double whopper almost doubles the F&C!)
This is a very easy "diet" to follow because it's hardly changing anything. It's just about the occasional compromise rather than a crash diet or massive lifestyle change.
So far I've lost around 8kg/17.6lb over 6 months. Doesn't sound like much, but the important thing is that it's still TRENDING downwards (for the first time since I started putting on weight around 15 years ago). I've dropped one waist size (5cm/2") and even at my current size my pants are starting to feel a little baggy, so it's probably getting closer to 2 sizes (10cm/4").
Buying new clothes is a pain but knowing you have to do it because you're losing weight is an awesome boost for confidence. In fact I kept some of my smaller size clothes, that I haven't fitted into for a few years, and can now start wearing them again.
So remember. SLOW and EASY!
Hope this inspires some to give it a try.
