BKK is not as cheap as people like to make it out to be. YES you can live like a local on a little money, but the quality of life would be horrible. If you want a nice life, you will pay for it. It's a major city, and while it's cheaper than a lot of other major cities, it's not cheap.
However, if you go out a little ways and out of the tourist areas, you can live DIRT CHEAP and have a good life.
