"Dr. Phil" says Ted Williams, the golden-voiced Ohio homeless man, is going into rehab to deal with alcohol and drug dependency.
Williams agreed to enter a private facility after a lengthy one-on-one interview with Dr. Phil McGraw that is set to air today, according to a statement from the show.
"If Ted is ever going to get better, he's got to be honest with himself and admit he's addicted to drugs and alcohol," the statement from "Dr. Phil" says. "I've told him it's not going to be easy and it's going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction."
Williams became a YouTube sensation after a Columbus, Ohio reporter videotaped him last week showing off his announcing skills on a street corner.
Earlier this week, Williams, who has been inundated with job offers and appeared on numerous TV shows, was briefly detained, along with his daughter, after they got into an altercation at a Los Angeles hotel.
Williams appeared on the program with members of his family, the Los Angeles Times reports.
His daughter says the spat was over Williams' excessive drinking, which the once-and-future radio announcer denies. Williams, on the other hand, tells Entertainment Tonight that his daughter who attacked him.
Meanwhile, back in his home state, Williams has been subpoenaed in the case of a woman who was accused of drug abuse, authorities said.
The Madison Press in London, Ohio, said Williams was a passenger in the woman's car in May and is wanted at a Feb. 11 hearing over whether deputies' search of the car was legal.
