I think the premise of the movie is spot on and I've tried to watch it several times. Unfortunately I've known or met WAY too many real living, breathing examples of the characters portrayed in movie. I really do find it too painful to deal with -- or even watch -- people this stupid. It seems their numbers seems to be increasing every year.

Real life versions of the characters in this movie appear everyday in news stories like that of the OP's as well as reality shows such as Cops, Jersey Shore, any of the "Real Housewives of...", etc.

There are just too many people that are living for the moment with an overblown sense of entitlement; no motivation; no interest in bettering themselves or using the brain they were born with; no analytical or critical thinking capabilities; a need for immediate gratification (though this is probably of benefit to us here at GFY); etc, etc, etc...
