in my early 20s I was a 'golden child' and making near 6 figures (20 years ago).
My mentor and boss told me 'Your family is NOT more important than work. Work provides for your family, without your income your life would change drastically and your wife would probably leave you. Work first, family second.'
Exactly opposite of what many people say, but I think he was right. I ended up putting other shit before work, income fell and shit fell apart just as he predicted.
