Remember the laptop isn't really for work, it's mostly my girlfriend who uses it just to mess about...

Having an iPad, if you aren't using it for anything too intensive, it will be perfect for what you are needing.
I can do my work at home on my iPad, granted I'm not FTP'ing or anything, simple admins & stats, etc.
I love being in bed being able to just set it up and watch TV. I've fallen asleep with it in my hands quite a bit too.
