I mean, on one hand it's nice that they finally told you but what the fuck man. I think I would probably go ballistic on one of my neighbors if they hid something like that from me for so long.
I lost a cat when I was a teenager, it tore me apart not knowing what happened to him- if he got hit by a car, lost his way during a storm, or got sealed inside a neighbor's attic... just awful. So sorry to hear someone could have ended that for you and they chose not to.
