Police in Bali Step up Security After Australian Woman Attacked
Posted on: February 1st, 2011 by Robin Welch
It is never good whenever a tourist is attacked. However, it now seems that one such case has forced police to step up their security. In fact, reports now show that police located in Bali have now been given the order to shoot all criminals on sight.
This new order comes after a long string of attacks took place on foreigners. This does include the recent attack on an Australian woman, who was bound and gagged when she was robbed in her hotel room. Bali police have now said that enough is enough, and something has to be done in order to keep criminals from attacking tourists.
The Australian woman, Christine Cheril, is 57 years old. She was apparently held hostage by a group of men. While she was bound and gagged, the men searched her villa and made off with $20,000 worth of valuables.
So far the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have confirmed that this Australian woman was indeed attacked in Bali. According to recent reports, the attack took place last Tuesday. The woman has since returned to Australia.
This attack occurred at the Villa Mangga in Megwi, Badung. This is actually an area that is pretty popular with a number of tourists. Experts suspect that is why this area was targeted by the masked men. Of course, the main problem is that these kinds of attacks continue to happen. They have gotten extremely bad in the past few months. One such event led to the death of a person leaving many tourists in the area feeling uneasy. Authorities are scared that this could cause some tourists to cancel their trips to the area.
