Really, its not about MASKING the links. Its about easily changing them once the program you promoted 5 years ago - or last month - starts ripping you off by just vanishing, or changing link codes.
One click site-wide link changes are
good. The problem with Wordpress is that you have to go through hundreds of posts to fix links for sites that get sold, or change.
With a script or plugin, its easy to say "Fuck You!" right back at 'em. Changed your links? Buh-bye.
