Good luck in Portland. I have been up here for about 3 years now and really like it. However, there are not many good (or good paying) jobs up here right now. I know of a few designers and that are looking for work.
BTW, I would try to move up here a few months before Sept. if you can so you can enjoy the our 2 months of good weather before the rain starts.
