Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian Doctor, was imprisoned in Egypt for quite some time and by all accounts tortured during his incararation. In the documentary "My Trip To Al Qaeda", the author talks about al-Zawahiri going in to prison as political activist and emerging a cold blooded killer.
