We had accounts with iBill. We lost a little but we had backup so business wasn't affected much.
We had accounts with Probilling and when they disappeared, we switch billers again.
In both instances we had money in the bank so had no problem meeting payroll. We had backup billers so sales weren't interrupted for very long.
We were also very careful not to burn bridges. It took a few years but we eventually received our money from Probilling.
Of course every situation is different. Billing companies can get into problems just like any other business. While Chris Mallick seems to have disappeared, employees of the other companies you mentioned left their sinking ships but remained in the industry that they enjoyed working in.
If you don't trust them thats fine. What you might want to do though is talk to each of them and ask them for yourself what happened, what their roles were in the demise or problems with that company and then judge for yourself if you want to do business with them again. It's a much better use of your time and no matter what, you come out much more informed. Spewing garbage based on personal hunches helps no one.
