Sony's video quality has always looked crisper to me than Canon's softer look and Sony's auto-focus has traditionally been a lot quicker to respond as well.
I did take that 1/3 versus 1/2 inch chips into consideration. But keep in mind, i rather have the newer technology, 1/3 inch Canon chip, than the 4 year old Sony 1/2 inch chip. There is a difference with quality and color leaning slightly towards the Canons side.

Prior to my camera purchase, I had issues with the chip size too. But after actually talking to the Canon Reps and using the Canon 305, i was sold.

The Sony was pretty bad ass under low light (that is the major reason for going with a bigger chip size), but so is this Canon 305.

Shot with an ex1 and shot 3D with 2 ex3's. Been with Sony for a long time. Both were good cameras. I know both inside and out. Before that had a Canon A1 that i loved.

422 color (great for Green screen and compositing) and the crispness of the L series Canon Lenses were the selling points for me. Plus, i like new shit.

Keep in mind i do a lot of green-screen, compositing work, music video work and low budget horror movies. The 422 color without going SDI out the back of a Sony is a huge benefit for me. Plus mixing the Canon 305 footage and the Canon Mark2 footage works out great for me.

And i can shoot porn with it too.
