Here's why and why most Americans even refuse to talk about it. It's going to sound harsh, but we all know it's true and something our "white" ancestors created that we have to live with. Anyway, the majority of blacks brought over were not cultured South African or even East African, but Congolese. In the slave trade they were culled and prized because they were the most durable on the boat ride over, could be controlled easier, and worked hardest on the plantations in the heat.
Our ancestors took it step further and breed blacks for 300 years like prized canine for their strength and hard labor endurance. Then we completely stripped them of any authentic culture or ethnic heritage and then one day opened the gate and said you're now free.
In short, we breed pittbulls for 300 years and then let them go in the community and told them to go run with the border collies and labs. What do you think was going to happen? IMO affirmative action is just trying to turn a pittbull into a working border collie.

interesting enough you'll see a Mexican man or woman selling fruit/flowers on the side of the road while on another corner will be a black OR white guy begging for money. all the Latin crews I've worked with have been awesome guys, their kids raised here... that's another deal for sure...
my gaffer is from Guatemala. came with his family when he was 8 years old... didn't speak any English. I think he told me his dad like $200 and they lived with another family from the old country etc.. his dad now has 3 dental offices and my gaffer is a great hard working very smart guy. he speaks spanish yet has no spanish accent.
