A lot of the fear about China doesn't make logical sense. On one hand people say that they are becoming an economic leader, then on the other they say they they can take over America with military might. The problem is that those two arguments don't go together. As a people become more prosperous, they are less inclined to join the army and wage war for no reason. If you live in a tiny shack with no food, joining the army and doing whatever they say make sense. If you have a new flat screen in your living room and a new car in the garage, you are not interested in fighting wars except for defense. So a country generally becomes more peaceful as their economy improves.
I do think we need tougher trade policies with China, that's for sure. But this fear of them taking over the world anytime soon is silly.
