There was a time when girls didn't shave at all because it was hidden under the cut of their panties and bathing suits. As the cut of the suits crept higher up towards the hips, girls had to start shaving the stray hairs that peaked out. Back in the seventies that resulted in a triangle shaped patch. Then the bathing suits really got high cut which necessitated a much narrower patch to remain hidden and that's how the " landing Strip " came about. Then a few started shaving it all off just for the hell of it and that's pretty much where we are today.
