Lug nuts need retightening anywhere from 50-100kms of travel, unless it's city driving, then you should retighten sooner.
What happens is the metal sometimes gets subjected to differences in air temperature, causing expansion and in some cases contraction. Once outside again the air temperaturte changes. The heat from brakes and motor speed that up and if air is cooler outside it can loosen faster.
Most service receipts will tell you to bring it in for retightening. I've had it happen twice. Once after break work and once after we went mudding with a Firefly lol the mudhole was cold, the air was hot.
Whenever your lug nuts have to come off always check them before hitting any highways. Turn wheel all the way to right, check nuts, ten turn all the way to left and check again. The slight movement of vehicle side to side will show loosened nuts on any wheel. Front or back.
They didn"t do anything wrong. This happens. If it was neglect you'd get the grinding noise when you took your first turn.
