I would get a small consumer hd vid cam for video... not a camera, +/- 1K. just about any sony, jvc, canon, panasonic would be fine. either a canon or nikon entery level dslr kit is fine for stills, +/- 3K. don't really think the tech is just yet for one 'cam' that does both really well...
