that's all fine and well... but just because they influenced what we hear today doesn't automatically make Sabbath's tunes any damn better. It's ancient history. Bury it and move on into the present. There's tons of shit that was considered "good" back then... doesn't mean it's good anymore.
The only ancient music that's truly good enough to last forever came from the classical composers... Bach, Mozart (my personal fav), Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky.... etc. Now
that's music. Black Sabbath sounds like some stoner was scraping a chunk of broken rusty metal across his guitar strings after his first day back from music class.
There is a lot of music today that's very good. Well composed, and well executed. And there's a lot that isn't. The death metal crap is just that... complete crap. Any idiot with a couple bottles of Jack, a few buddies, some noise makers, and the ability to growl and scream incoherent angry biblical references for 60 minutes could put out the next death metal CD.
