There's hardly anything in the present that can even come close to comparing to what Black Sabbath has done for music. My present is Black Sabbath, such is the wonder of audio recording. I can put in a CD and listen to what they did in the 60s and 70s and it _still_ stands up today.

The only ancient music that's truly good enough to last forever came from the classical composers... Bach, Mozart (my personal fav), Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Tchaikovsky.... etc. Now that's music. Black Sabbath sounds like some stoner was scraping a chunk of broken rusty metal across his guitar strings after his first day back from music class.

I have a broad range of musical tastes but I find it hard to compare classical music (I'm more of a Holst and Frank Zappa kind of guy when it comes to that) to the likes of Black Sabbath. How in one message you can proclaim Ozzy is the king, yet in another say Black Sabbath sounds like "some stoner was scraping a chunk of broken rusty metal across his guitar strings after his first day back from music class" doesn't make sense to me. I listen to Ozzy and hear Black Sabbath. Why? Because every musican he's played with has been _heavily_ influenced by them. Talent wise all Ozzy does is sing and put on a show. Go listen to Laguna Sunrise or Orchid or Fluff or Symptom of the Universe or Spiral Architect... The list goes on. Then go listen to any Ozzy song and you will hear the Sabbath.

There is a lot of music today that's very good. Well composed, and well executed.

There is? I can think of maybe a handful of groups I would put in that category.

The death metal crap is just that... complete crap. Any idiot with a couple bottles of Jack, a few buddies, some noise makers, and the ability to growl and scream incoherent angry biblical references for 60 minutes could put out the next death metal CD.

I'll take death metal over top 40 any day.
