No man, I never shoot on a tripod. I move around a lot when I shoot and shooting on a tripod just wouldn't work for me. Basically I figure out what's the largest aperture setting that I'm comfortable with (depending on what lens I'm using) and then I select a shutter speed that is fast enough to ward off motion blur and from there it's a matter of selecting whatever ISO setting will give me a properly exposed picture.
These pictures were shot at ISO 800 or 1600 and run through
Topaz Denoise to reduce the digital noise caused by high ISO. On the last picture, I decided to introduce some noise back into the picture because I just thought it looked better that way
The 5D Mark II does a beautiful job with high ISO settings but I don't think it can compete with the Nikon cameras in that area. But using high ISO along with a noise reduction photoshop plugin, I think the results are acceptable
