This image, taken by the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope on July 15, 2002, is the highest-resolution solar image to date. About half of this sunspot's umbra is shown on the right, and yellowish granules appear on the left. In between, the sunspot's penumbra features dark cores in some of its bright filaments.
