When I was growing up my family owned a zoo in Massapequa NY. It was called the Massapequa Zoo and Kidde Park. Themed around a monkey mountain constructed by Frank Buck, in his time a famous animal trapper. That mountain housed around 300 monkeys originally from India. People came from all over the world to see the mountain; it was truly an amazing site to see. I asked to work with the animals rather than out front where we had built rides for the kids. Well they may have looked cute but I came to learn real soon they were filthy, ferocious animals some weighing as much as 80 pounds that could kill a man. They almost killed me, my uncle actually had to shoot one of them.
Stay away from that type of monkey for sure.
We also had a little Spider Monkey that was housed in a different part of the zoo. She was really cute and adorable weighed less than 10 pounds. I remember her jumping on my chest and clinging to me when I would feed her and clean her cage. When they sold the property I really wanted to take her home and I could have but decided against it because of all the work involved taking care of her. They are like babies that never grow up. So if you really want a Monkey I would suggest the Spider Monkey, but I’d give it a lot of though first.
