I read about these kids awhile ago. They launched after MySpace and Facebook. They outsourced their ideas to India developers who developed the entire thing as a MySpace clone.
They got lucky because Facebook was still college only at the time of their launch. So all of the younger kids looking for tighter community's and social networks ala Facebook didn't really have much of a choice.
