Screw the Idol concept it is pure marketing innovation at its finest mechanics wise. They rake in large advertisors, they merchandise the finalists on CD, in concerts, they do record deals and make sales money from that, they own these people for a mere payout of $1,000,000 only to the winner and a record deal.
Last years winner sold 3 million on her one CD released weeks ago and it went platinum already.
They cultivated the market via the TV show, and sold CD's within their own following, absolutely brilliant.
Thats the intrigue for me. These kids would have no chance to be recording artists, what a niche, and the AI owners are making gazillion millions, and these kids make enough bling to be owned during their 15 mins of fame.
I love this show, win-win for everyone, market to 24 million folk following and merchandise the shit out of their own market.
Bet we see 205 Studdard jerseys coming to the GAP store soon.
