I saw the Iron Curtain in the late 60s and not see it's remnants between Czech and Austria. It was effective.
It was very effective.
At some points on the US/Mexico border the fence is a joke. With all the illegals, drugs and criminals coming across you have to ask yourself why hasn't the border been strengthened?
Are the US leaders playing lip service to border control for some reason?

The "iron curtain" was a term explaining how communism and drawn a line across Europe. It wasn't a physical barrier.
The Berlin wall was very effective, but only for a short distance, around a section of Berlin, and was more effective at keeping people in. Trying to create a thousand mile barrier similar to the Berlin Wall would be massive.
