I hear you. I've lost nearly 50 pounds now after switching to a differing veg lifestyle. I've been vegetarian for over 2 years now but managed to stay fat until I switched to eating a low carb diet, enjoying unsalted raw almonds/walnuts for small snacks, working out every morning, running every morning. It's gotten so wild my wife doesn't recognize me sometimes--I snuck up behind her at a grocery and she almost freaked out.

I hear you about the drowsy effect. When I used to eat meat, I get drowsy but also after only an hour or two I have to go to the bathroom. With veggies, I'm more regular and don't have irritable bowels.
Switching to veg isn't as hard as people say. Plus the will power being exercised can also be applied to differing areas in one's life (in my case, productivity and creative processes).
