I not only eat smaller portions now, but I eat less over all food over the course of the day. So obviously, even if it does nothing to increase metabolism, it causes me to eat less. I use to eat a big ass lunch, big ass dinner and late night snack. Now I force myself to eat a very small breakfast, which when lunch rolls around i am not as hungry so I can eat a lot less and still feel full. Small snack in the evening makes me not hungry for dinner, i eat less there. Overall I am eating about 60% of what I use to, but eating more often but smaller sizes.
diet plans that advocate every 4 hour feedings and the subsequent products those companies push are the beneficiaries of the strict 4 hour feeding rule. protein powders are another, plenty of examples.

there are many ways to eat less every 24 hours. i eat 1x a day twice a week for instance (intermittent fast).
