WTS, I've been called up for jury duty on a State level a few times and honestly believe everyone should serve at least once because one day you might be judged by 8-12 who are too stupid to get off jury duty or might just want to be there.

6 years ago I was called up and it did not go well. The female judge gave her pitch about why you think you should not serve and to be honest. I raised my hand and spoke the truth. It went down like this- I told her my father was an LAPD detective for 20 years and heard stories/jokes often how they would "test a lie" in court because they felt the guy was guilty or a minority.

I then told the judge I truly feel all cops are liars and I will not believe anything they say unless they produce their job history with no internal investigations. The judge flipped out and turned judge judy on me and then ripped me a new asshole in front of everyone about being prejudice etc.

After she was done I smiled and said, your opinion of me concerns me about as much as other civil servants who pick up my trash or power-wash gum off sidewalks. There was a long awkward pause and then I was dismissed.

Not only is it a true story and a fact, but I've been in and out of courts easily a 100x.
I see your point. I've avoided duty as it would have been a financial disaster. But when I served, it was very educational and better than any great book I read.
Although my 1st trial was a lady suing her insurance company over storm damages.

After a coke charge & some time, I saw the good & bad of cops and criminals. Good criminals & really bad criminals.

I would today go into court and be the most fairest juror, as I know cops lie and not every accused is guilty. And some criminals are so guilty that the damn trial is a waste of time.

Years ago, a magazine proposed we hire professional jurors. Not people trying to get out of duty or people too stupid to get out of duty. Just fair jurors.

I worked at the Post office. Jury duty was a vacation compared to work. One fellow employee tried to volunteer. No damn luck.
I did my best to keep a jury one more day, anything but back to the PO. Knew the guys were guilty, but sitting in a chair beat bucking 70# mail sacks.
