I started doing music journalism in the 1980's, so I feel fairly qualified on the topic, and I still believe that, in general, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Which isn't to say, especially in this sucky economy, that a lot of hard workers (who deserve a break) don't catch a break. Then again, crashing in a punk rock group house with an all night party is significantly more fun than a corporate meet and greet at a stadium. From a distance, they both might not look like work at all, but they both really are, the latter moreso.
Honestly, this discussion has gone off track. If you read my original post, the main point wasn't hard work. The main part was about how life in general is made up of trade offs. If you want fame, you have to give up some privacy. Simply as that. Another poster came along and suggested what I wrote was simply sour grapes, but he clearly missed the point in his rush to post something inflammatory. I think you ended up actually arguing with his interpretation of my post and not my actual post. I never bashed Justin Bieber or belittled his success or work ethic.
