ok here's a little biology lesson. the male reproductive system is a rather complex gem of igenuity, but it pales in comparison to the complexity of the female reproductive system.
we have 1 hormone governing our sex cell production, testosterone!
women have dozens of hormones all interacting with various timings and interdependant reactions
at the start of the cycle, the uterus wall is lined so it can support a baby, a few days later the eggs are fertile and if mating is successful ... new baby bit goes here....
then if mating does not succeed the whole system winds down again and the uterine wall is broken down and discarded as waste... that's the period!
