In the middle of the 1990's I helped an American investor in France buy a similar deal, it was 20 buildings or so and you had to follow strict rules in order to restore the buildings. He turned it into a bed and breakfast with around 10 different houses/rooms. Last I heard, he was still living with his family in the biggest house while running the place.
At the time I thought to myself, who would want to live in a hole like that in the middle of nowhere, but now that I passed the 40 y/o mark, I wouldn't mind doing the same...
