I agree about the incredible mess of having to investigate validity of all the claims. I think the point of the news article (and this thread I would think) is that in amongst all of that mess there are still a lot of people down there who have legitimate claims who haven't had their claims approved, haven't been paid, or haven't been getting their ongoing payments quick enough.

And it was also stated that some who signed those one-time payout agreements are finding out now that those agreements included a claus which says they can't later sue BP for any further compensations. Which is kind of their own fault really, as people do need to read over anything like that carefully before signing. But I also realize there is a language barrier thing with a lot of folks in that area, so perhaps BP's people should have realized that and maybe done more to make sure those people knew in full what they were signing and agreeing to?
He is not BP's lawyer...he was appointed by the government...and I should have been more specific about the right to sue. There are interim payouts and there are final payouts. Those that have not accepted final payouts but have received interim payments can still sue...if they are not satisfied with a final payout offer.

I saw him interviewed over the weekend and it is he that stated there has been claims come in from all fifty states in the Union and many have been found to be fraudulent and many have been found to be frivolous...but all claims have to be investigated...and is time consuming. He did also state that many of those that are submitting claims have not provided required documentation and until they do their claims cannot be processed.
