No but she should not get a free pass. She should have to prove in court that it was a hijacked computer or as you said maybe be aware of what it takes to protect her machine. This should not stop copyright holders from having the ability to at least find out who the IP belongs to track down if they stole or not.
The days of oh I don't know how these computer things work is past. Learn to be responsible with your wifi and computer or prepare for the consequences like you do when you drive, fly or anything else.
