I was thinking that the ideal would be to live in a building that is upper middle class where a normal size one bedroom apartment might be renting for around $1500, but to actually have a smaller studio like 15x15 in the same building for like a third of the rent. then you would have the advantage of not having welfare neighbors and you'd have all the room you needed anyways without paying for a whole bunch of extra space, and maybe have the perqs of having a good fitness room and a good location too
