i just took the Smart as example because of its size. i actually understand pretty good how crumple zones work, but either the Hummer hit the bus at 50 or 60 mph or more or its crumple zone sucks - because the passenger cell is supposed to stay intact and the massive intrusion of the dashboard you see on the pictures is not supposed to happen with a safely designed car. because the best crumple zone doesn't help when you are crushed between seat, steering wheel and dashboard.
