depending on your fitness level, you can lose a ton of weight just dieting if you want, but you won't be very toned up when all the flab comes off. if you are in pretty good shape, i'd recommend p90x or insanity DVDs, they do work but it's a lot of work. in between those, i'd eat a calorie deficit diet combined with some resistance training 3x a week and some cardio such that i am losing ~1.5/2 pounds per week.
