I don't understand the need for a bunker either. Really, unless we're hit with giant asteroids or some sort of nuclear exchange happens, I don't see the reason for an underground bunker.
Having said that, if either or both of those scenarios happen, it will be those with bunkers who will probably survive.
But for how long? I hope they have enough food and water inside of them, otherwise they don't do much good.
