Obfuscated upsells. Are you 100% sure you're just registering a domain and not signing up for something extra?
Your new domain won't cost $1.29 to renew in a year's time...
I believe the code usually only applies to one domain, so unless you're a total domain junkie I'd say that saving $7 once-off (then spending another $8 to move it away from godaddy) isn't worth it.
