Here's why I like Idol.
When I began shooting models many years ago before the internet I had to go out in the public and actually find them face to face. I liked shooting models because of my artistic side and I liked the thought of finding some clueless girl working in the mall or walking on the beach and knowing that she has what it takes to become a successful model. I liked that I could change the direction of her life from a cashier to a high paid, globe trotting model with fame and fortune and a life she never dared to dream of.
I have a really good eye for talent and in the time I was doing it I discovered a handful of girls that went on to a life like I described above. I could find a girl that had the raw look and know that with the right makeup and styling and a little experience she could become a star. My part was to recognize the talent, bring it out of her and then send her off in the right direction where it would benefit her the most.
So when I watch Idol I see that same process. I see kids from everyday life except they already have the dream. They start off raw, and are picked to the next level based on their raw talent and potential. As they progress they are groomed and over the course of the show you get to watch a transformation from that kid working as a cashier like I used to find to a music super star like Carrie Underwood all because of the American Idol process.
I'm always looking for the best path through life to get where I want to be. I always thought it was cool to point out a path to someone else if they don't see it for themselves. Regardless how the show is packaged or demographic its aimed at, I see someone's dream coming true and someone else has helped them along the way and I like it.
