I don't disagree with any of that. The US is all about making money from anything, even the hopelessly retarded.
I think that in this era of the 24hr news cycle and infotainment, idiots get more attention than non-idiots, because idiots are entertaining.. thus, adding to the perception of a disproportionate number of idiots.
Think about this... almost anytime you see any American being interviewed on TV about world events, politics etc.. its almost NEVER an intelligent, educated person giving a thought provoking, well thought out and well reasoned opinion, but rather a backwards dumbass or some ghetto idiot saying something retarded. American news does this, foreign news does this in America X10. And by the way, I don't notice American news doing this to other countries in the way other countries do it to America.
