Yeah I was surprised he was actually 58. Which is pretty old for a lot of wrestlers. A lot die young and often of heart problems. So yeah steroids might be the reason.
I always found him facinating because he seemed like the kind of guy you would want by your side if you went into a bar or something. Old school major toughness.
