Ethics and morals are not the same thing by definition or standard.
Morals are more of a set of beliefs, such as knowing the difference between right and wrong, sometimes within the context of a specific society or group - for instance, cannibalism is wrong in civilized societies, perhaps its acceptable in the middle of the jungle where the people have never seen anyone other than each other. Same thing with the a lot of laws - thievery, murder, etc - these are the morals a society chooses to live by as a whole.
Ethics pertains more to making the decision to act within a certain set of preset right/wrong manners or behaviours, and doesn't necessarily take into account the moral guidelines of a society. Someone with a strong work ethic, for example, could be a fantastic serial killer, if that was their chosen career. Someone with a great work ethic could be the best burger flipper McD's ever hired. Someone with a lackadaisical ethic towards work wouldn't be able to do either successfully.
