well, i can tell by looking at the page the aggregator throws up on your dropped name. aggers tend to have distinctive pages.
"shadowy agggregator" isn't a service, it's a group of domain drop speculators that buy up domain drops and throw up a harvestor page on them to try to extract a small profit off the traffic left on the name.
"shadowy" because people have speculated without proof that they are somehow connected to cheapies and gord. they don't have to be tho, aggregators will buy drops wherever they can get them at a price that makes it likely they will see a profit.
there was a day when domainnamesystems was considered a decent registrar. now it's a pit.
