People on bikes are idiots. Out on the main road to get to the freeway you have to make a right hand turn onto another street, which forces cars through the bike lane. Last month a biker got badly mauled because a car crossed this bike lane. It doesn't make sense to me at all - Why would a biker have the right of way? Easier to stop a slow moving bike than it is a car making a right hand turn at 30mph.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a biker too. I tend to stay on local trails; I can get nearly anywhere in town via trails. When there isn't a trail I use the sidewalk; It's common sense - I don't want cars flying past me at 40mph five feet away from me.
As a sidenote.... They are building a fourteen mile bypass around my home town here, which should open up next year. Every weekend I explore it on my bike. The bridges are up, but the roads aren't paved yet, so it's fun on the bike.
