The family is fucked up, no doubt. They did raise a little liar and teach her that it's better to live in denial and bullshit your way through life than be honest and stand up and face the music. There is no doubt though that they loved their grandchild and that they went above and beyond to keep her save and well cared for.
It just doesn't fit. George Anthony seemingly enjoyed spending every moment possible with his granddaughter before he had to go to work (or casey pretended to go to her job). He made the little girl breakfast every morning, they watched TV together and would dance in the living room. There's no way George Anthony would find that kid in the pool an not call 911, not perform CPR, no matter how long she had been in there. He's a former cop, he's not going to hide the body and create the illusion of a crime when no crime had been committed... it's just all crazy talk.
