PS: Im not Vancouver fan, but I've played the game and been hit and layed a hit on players that have their head down this way. Had Horton had his head up and didn't get hurt people would be saying "What a great check that was".

I just watched it again and while I agree that Horton should have had his head up that was a dirty hit. Looking up wouldn't change how late it was delivered or the fact that Rome left the ice with both feet like he was going to fly like Superman and went intentionally head high. If he went lower with a hip check and didn't jump off into it then probably it would be another story. If. If. If...
Another part of the problem is that in youth hockey today playing "heads up" hockey is way different than when I was growing up and everyone played without helmets still. Most of the stickhandling hot shots of today's game wouldn't last a week in the days of the Broadstreet Bully style of play where the head being down was like death wish and suicide passes were a contract with the Grim Reaper wielding a hockey stick like a scythe.
