At least here in Toronto, police have a responsibility to respond to every call they get. If you say there are aliens raping errreybody at such and such address, they have a legal responsibility to at least send a cruiser by and check.
Might seem crazy, but what's even crazier is letting police dispatchers decide what's important and what's not based on whatever.
Dozens of cops... I dunno why they went and did that.
